The Heart of Your Home: Your Kitchen

Your kitchen is the heart of your home, and when you want that space to be a showcase, only the best appliances will do: Sub-Zero and Wolf.

Sub-Zero, makers of refrigerators, refrigerated drawers, wine coolers, freezers and ice makers is the self-described “food preservation specialist.” This is a company that takes refrigeration seriously.

Wolf, the corporate companion to Sub-Zero, manufactures professional-grade gas ranges, cook tops, wall ovens, warming drawers, microwaves, hoods, barbecues and coffee makers.

“These two manufacturers products are the closest you can get to commercial equipment and still be residential,” said Dave Murray, general manager of KAM Appliances with showrooms in Hyannis, Nantucket and Hanover.

Sub-Zero, manufactured in Madison, Wisconsin for the past 60 years, stands out from the crowd because of its unique ability to preserve food at ultra low, “sub-zero” temperatures. The company’s dual-refrigeration technology means that the refrigerator and freezer have their own dedicated, sealed systems to optimize food freshness.

Another big advantage of the Sub-Zero line is the ability to integrate the refrigerator into any kitchen design. With custom panels, the Sub-Zero refrigerators and freezers can blend seamlessly into kitchen cabinetry.

“What they set out to do was to build a suite of appliances that can easily blend into any aesthetic vision the customer has,” Murray said. “There are so many creative things you can do with a fully integrated refrigerator.”

That includes finishing the door with chalkboard paint, for those all-important family messages. Or using cork so it becomes a bulletin board. Handles can also be customized and Murray said he’s seen homeowners use everything from a doorknob to the hood ornament from a 57 Chevy to open their Sub-Zero.

The company also makes refrigerator drawers that can be integrated into an island or cabinet – a great place to store beer, juice, water or whatever else your family needs to grab and go. Other Sub-Zero appliances include a line of specialty refrigerators, wine coolers, freezers and ice makers.

A Wolf range, with its signature red knobs, is the perfect professional-style cooking companion to the Sub-Zero fridge.

“It is one of the best in the industry,” Murray said.

Made in the USA, Wolf ranges have been central components in commercial kitchens for more than 80 years. Its residential line of cooking equipment includes convection steam ovens; gas ranges; dual-fuel ranges; electric, induction and gas cooktops; and integrated cooktops that feature both gas and electric cooking.

All of Wolf’s ovens feature exclusive spring-and-damper door hinges for easy closure – even when your hands are full. And while most ovens offer limited cooking modes – treating a pie and a prime rib as if they were the same – Wolf dual-convection ovens offer 10 cooking choices; the usual bake and broil settings in addition to convection bake and broil; bake stone, which achieves a professional brick oven effect for pizzas, flatbreads, etc.; a dehydrate cycle for drying fruits and vegetables; and even a proof setting for raising dough.

On top, the dual-stacked gas burners can be set up to a searing heat or down to the lowest breath of flame and everything in between.

“Precise control eliminates guesswork and helps you achieve exactly the results you have in mind,” the company says.
