The Question!

Dear Karen,
I’m 33 and about 5 months ago I started dating a new guy that I really like. Well, now that he’s feeling more comfortable with me he’s expressing things that concern him. The other night he asked me to stop wearing low cut blouses and high heels.

This is how I like to dress. I work out and I feel good about myself. I don’t want to dress like a frump!

How should I handle this situation?

Karen’s Answer!

Dear Kristin,

If he casually mentioned the kinds of things that he likes in a woman….that’s one thing. Then it would be up to you to decide whether you wanted to please him in that way once in a while.

However, in this case he came right out and said “he doesn’t want you wearing low cut blouses and high heels” anymore! He obviously didn’t care if he hurt you. I think this is a sign of things to come. He’s probably a controlling guy. I think this is a big red flag. Have your eyes wide open and listen to the things he says. If he makes you feel uncomfortable… let him know and if he continues to make you feel that way get out. If you marry this guy it’ll only get worse.

Thanks for your email!
Karen
