That Girl’s Blog: A Happy Ending for a Long Tail!

I am so happy to share a little (or a very large) piece of good news with you this morning! Lyoness is finally HOME!! The 7 year old Newfie that had all of the town of Sandwich on the lookout and the world of facebook on edge was reunited with her family last night!

She is home and warm and safe and probably getting a good bath in the very near future! Where was she? Apparently she had spent most of her time lately wandering in the woods between the power lines and the Oak Ridge School. Recently, in fact, several teachers saw her walking through the grass in the school yard just a few days ago.

In a post by family friend Yarmouth Police Dept Chief Steven Xiarhos: Thanks to the efforts of hundreds of concerned citizens and the expertise of Jamie Generoux of PACKLEADER PET TRACKERS…Lyoness calmly walked  into a special and humane animal trap and was safely captured and returned home shortly afterwards to her loving family.

As I am sitting here on the couch with my own two dogs, I am grateful for the community that I am a part of. I live with people who do not give up hope and are willing to dedicate their own time and resources to help find a dog they have never met. The stories of hope that so many people shared on the “Missing Dogs” threads and the round the clock efforts were uplifting. The ability to stay positive throughout the ordeal must have been unbearable for Lyoness’ family, especially during the 7 day gap when there were no sightings.  During that time, I saw that another dog had gone missing and was recovered 14 miles away from home! I think about the little black lab puppy from Marstons Mills who also wandered off and was eventually found in East Falmouth! It was a lucky break that this big girl ( who has probably slimmed down a bit from her 115 pounds) stayed in the same area for so long.

I know the family will want to thank everyone, but rather than bother them, I thought I would let them sleep in for the first time in 21 days! In the meantime, a round of Milk Bones for everyone!!!
