Yet Another, Gone Too Soon

I am a child of the 80’s, thru and thru. Graduated High School in 1985, owned all the fashions, have every toy, and my music.

One by one the icons of my generation are passing on, way way too soon.

This year alone, Prince, Bowie, Alan Thicke, just to name a few, and now George Michael.

I was a fan of WHAM!, and as a college intern at a radio station in New York City in 1987-1990, we saw it all. These icons would stop by the radio station all the time. They were just the coolest, always nice and friendly. Except Madonna. She was the most normal.

George Michael came by in the WHAM! days, and he was just so nice . The fame oozed off him but there was a sense of normalcy when he was just hanging out, waiting to go on the air for an interview. Didn’t care that there were 10 of us in the studio. One of my friends asked him if he could get him a drink, he said, no worries mate, I’ll get it myself, got up, went to the water cooler, chatted with the sales assistants, walked back, re assumed the role of star, and did the interview.

Just gone too soon, and it’s wicked sad.

Lot’s of 80’s in the iPod today.
