Volunteer Fair to Connect Residents with Local Causes

FALMOUTH – Residents on Cape Cod looking to make positive change can attend Engage Falmouth’s inaugural event later this month.

The Engage Falmouth Fair is designed to connect residents with local causes. Dozens of local organizations will gave information tables at the event on Sunday, January 29 at St. Barnabas Church form 3 to 6 p.m.

Engage Falmouth formed after the 2016 Presidential Election to advocate for progressive change in Falmouth, Cape Cod and beyond.

“A lot of people were depressed by the outcome of the election, and came together to talk about what work we could do for positive change,” said Lauren Valle of Teaticket, an Engage Falmouth co-organizer, in a statement. “We decided to think globally and act locally by creating a network of people engaged with grassroots causes. If we can do this nationwide, it will have a tremendous effect on the federal government’s ability to implement racist and bigoted policies.”

Attendees will have the opportunity to learn about organizations working on environmental issues, women and LGBTQ rights, affordable housing, immigrant and racial justice, gun violence and elder care.

Organizations participating include: Coalition for Social Justice, Cape Downwinders, Falmouth Climate Action Team, Falmouth Energy Committee, Housing Assistance Corporation, Hope Hospice, Community Action Committee, Falmouth SWIFT (Supporting Women in Financial Transition), Action Together Network, Cape Cod Women for Change, Grandmothers Against Gun Violence/MA Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence, Neighborhood Falmouth, PFLAG (Parents, Families & Friends of Lesbians & Gays), No Place for Hate, Falmouth Water Stewards, Independence House, Habitat for Humanity of Cape Cod, Youth Services Ministry, Cape & Islands Stronger Together and WE CAN (Women’s Empowerment Through Cape-Area Networking).

In case of inclement weather, the event will be postponed to Sunday, February 12.
