THE BREWSTER STORE

Originally built as a two-story church in 1852, The Brewster Store became a local shop in 1866 when the building was purchased for one dollar by William W. Knowles. Today, the building houses a fabulous selection of antique items, fun summer beach toys, buttons, penny candy, and Cape Cod-themed housewares. A tiny model of the store itself can be found inside. And don’t forget to check out all the treasures on the second floor!

THE WELLFLEET MARKETPLACE

Wellfleet’s original downtown grocery store is adorable as can be. The Marketplace features local produce and scrumptious prepared foods, but it also boasts a decent sized book section. Wares by local artists can also be found within this little shop in the town center, including the mysterious gurgling fish jugs.

THE 1856 COUNTRY STORE, CENTERVILLE

This country store claims to have served everyone from first graders to First Ladies. Selling nautical wares, quirky gifts, and rows of penny candy, the 1856 Country Store is the perfect stop to find quaint treasures in Centerville. Two benches sit outside the shop: one labeled ‘Democrats,’ the other, ‘Republicans.’ The building itself has been around since the 1840’s—and originally housed cranberries after the harvest. Shortly after, it became a shoe store, and in 1856 it was converted into a general store.

ALLEY’S GENERAL STORE, MARTHA’S VINEYARD

While it was renovated in 1993, Alley’s General Store in West Tisbury is still the oldest retail business still operating on the Vineyard. From scrumptious treats to apparel and hardware, this store seems to have it all. Every nook and cranny of the shop is packed to the brim with fun and unusual finds.
