CENTERVILLE – Cape Cod’s Coolest Dessert Contest, a fundraiser put on by Four Seas Ice Cream to celebrate the business’s 80th year in business and to support the local community, was, by all accounts, a grand and tasty success.

The event raised more than $16,500 for Children’s Cove, a local nonprofit that helps children who have suffered abuse.

Four Seas invited some of the region’s top chefs–18 in all–to create original desserts using Four Seas ice cream. Each chef created 1,000 portions of their dessert, which were served to ticket holders who came to enjoy the festivities at St. George Greek Orthodox Church in Centerville.

Many of the chefs asked Four Seas to create custom flavors for their desserts.

DESSERT02A panel of celebrity judges were charged with selecting the best dessert and the best decorated booth. Among the judges was WQRC’s own Dave Read, who took to the challenge with enthusiasm.

The winner of both the coolest dessert and the best booth went to Red’s Restaurant at the Seacrest Beach Hotel in North Falmouth.

Their booth had a chocolate Willy Wonka theme and their dessert was crafted with a Beech Plum and Peanut Butter swirl ice cream.

The other restaurants in the challenge were The Roadhouse Cafe, Centerville Pie Company, Idgy’s Gluten Free Restaurant, The Island Merchant, Yarmouth House Restaurant, Pain D’Avignon Café Boulangerie, Little Miss Cupcape, Williams-Sonoma, Alan Zox, Zox Kitchen, The Compound Restaurant, Il Maestro Ristorante, Lambert’s Rainbow Fruit, Centerville; The Captain David Kelley House; Amari Restaurant; Torino’s Restaurant and Bar; and Villaggio at the Regatta.
