A Silent Film Rolls In Buzzards Bay

Some of the earliest films still in existence were shot on Cape Cod. One such picture, the four-minute-long 1903 feature “Rip Van Winkle,” was shot almost entirely on location in Buzzards Bay on the estate of famed New York stage actor Joseph Jefferson. An 800-pound mutograph camera was used in the film’s production.
