The Lanes Bowl and Bistro: One of Kind on Cape Cod

The Lanes Bowl and Bistro in Mashpee Commons

If you’re like me, you think of bowling alleys as being dark places stuck in the 1970s where not much has changed except the smoking rules. The last time I ate at a bowling alley, I had nachos with a sauce that was definitely not made of real cheese.

The Lanes Bowl and Bistro is a completely different experience. Bright and airy with tall ceilings, it has a trendy gastro pub feel with a big welcoming bar. The walls have chalkboards announcing the changing drink specials. Behind the bar, a wall of windows opens to allow service to customers enjoying the outdoor patio.

Five years ago, The Lanes Bowl and Bistro, opened in Mashpee Commons, in a former supermarket location. The concept combines bowling, a full service bar, delicious food, and an extensive outdoor area with a bocce court and a fire pit. The experience provided by The Lane’s Bowl and Bistro really does provide something for everyone.

The interior of The Lanes Bowl and Bistro was inspired by turn of the century bowling alleys which were often located in basements of halls and public buildings. The “vintage industrial” ambiance recalls those days combining an old factory feel with pops of color and fun graphics. The term “vintage industrial” is often used to describe an aesthetic, but The Lane’s Bowl and Bistro is almost completely repurposed. When outfitting the Mashpee Commons complex, The Lane’s sought out companies that reused and recycled materials.”Almost every one of the major design elements in both the bistro and the bowling alley has had a past life, be it as newspapers, seat belts, soda cans, or coffee bean bags. All of these elements combine to create an upscale urban look that is at once vintage and innovative,” said Jeff Moore, President / Owner.

The innovation continues when it comes to the menu. They only work with fresh ingredients and everything is cooked fresh to order. There is really is something for everyone. Families can appease kids who want something simple like hot dogs and chicken tenders while parents choose from more interesting grownup options. The menu includes creative items such as cheeseburger eggrolls stuffed with ground meat and cheese and served with a tangy sauce and a salsa that includes chopped dill pickles. There are trendy items including an array of crispy flat breads, hamburgers served on pretzel rolls, and chicken and waffles. There are also traditional items such as spaghetti and meatballs made with head chef, Jim O’Shea’s, grandmother’s recipe. Don’t worry sports bar classics like potato skins and nachos are still on the menu but they’ve been given the The Lanes Bowl and Bistro twist.

The fresh ingredients extend to the cocktail menu. In addition to the regular menu of mojitos, margaritas, and mules, there is an ever-changing seasonal selection of drinks. Everything is made fresh. Lemons and limes are squeezed fresh daily without a preservative in sight. The seasonal cocktail menu currently includes fresh summery drinks that are perfect to enjoy on The Lanes outdoor patio. The Summer Mule includes a splash of pineapple juice. The Screwball reminded me a bit of an Orange Julius with notes of vanilla, pineapple, and orange juice.

In addition to switching up the cocktail menu, the beers on tap regularly change as well. An extensive array of New England based beers are available at The Lanes Bowl and Bistro. The selection rotates seasonally giving you new things to try on every visit to The Lanes Bowl and Bistro.

A visit to The Lanes Bowl and Bistro will introduce you a new experience. It’s more than a restaurant and more than a bowling alley. It combines the old-fashioned fun of bocce, cornhole and bowling with innovative food in a unique setting. Trivia nights and live music means no two visits to The Lanes Bowl and Bistro will be the same. Visit their website to get the latest schedule of events and plan your visit today.
