BUZZARDS BAY – A conceptual plan for Buzzard’s Bay Park on Main Street has been unveiled and efforts to move the project forward are underway.

The Main Street Committee of the Bourne Financial Development Corporation along with selectmen and other officials have collaborated on the plan.

Marie Oliva of the Cape Cod Canal Region Chamber of Commerce says the park is a three phase project.

“The first phase is about $350,000 that will come from the Community Preservation Act,” Oliva said. “And will help with underground irrigation, upgrade the electricity, have some lighting, have some signage and really have some tangible improvements.”

Oliva says the first phase should be complete sometime this year as long as it is approved by the Community Preservation Act and at town meeting.

The concept plans include the addition of a pavilion, shaded grove, picnic tables and play area.

Oliva says the future is looking bright for Main Street Buzzards Bay.

“We have a lot of amenities on Main Street Buzzards Bay including the park and the canal,” she said. “So you look at that and you say once you see tangible things more investors will come into the area.”

Results from a survey of residents were included in the design process.
