For one weekend only, the Falmouth Theatre Guild in a special collaboration with Turning Pointe Dance Studio is presenting “Hansel & Gretel” at Highfield Theater in Falmouth.

The musical fairy tale by Englebert Humperdinck is directed by Joan Baird with choreography by Laura Faria Sciortino. Music direction and accompaniment is by Henry Buck.

“This show is a great show as an introduction to opera for young audiences and it is also a perennial favorite for regular opera goers who delight in the charming music,” Baird said.

The show runs September 25 to 27, Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m.

The cast includes some of the top local talent to grace the Highfield stage, including Jodi Edwards as Hansel; Laura Cervinsky-Delaney as Gretel; Holly Seebach as the witch; Peter Cook as Peter, a broom-maker; Bonnie Fairbanks as Gertrude, his wife; Steve Koglin as Sandman; and Jennifer Perrault as the Dew Fairy.

“All the people involved in this show are seasoned veterans of theater and of opera, and they have all studied music throughout their lives,” she said, calling the cast one of the best she has ever worked with.

As a child, Baird played the role of Gretel in a production that was her first introduction to opera.

“At about the age of 10, I had the opportunity of singing Gretel in a condensed, much easier version for an opera workshop that my mom was involved in. It was there that I fell in love with this much-loved opera,” she said.

There are 31 Turning Pointe dancers in the production and ballet is used throughout the play.

Highfield Theater is located at 58 Highfield Drive in Falmouth. The box office phone number is 508-548-0400. The box office will be open for two hours prior to each performance.
