8th Annual Sgt Mark Vecchione Memorial Fishing Trip This Weekend

ORLEANS – Cape Cod Cares for Our Troops will be hosting their 8th Annual Fishing Trip this weekend. The event is held each year in honor of Sergeant Mark Vecchione, the first military member from Cape Cod killed in action in Iraq.

As with previous years, Cape Cod Cares for Our Troops and Rock Harbor Fishing Charters will be hosting a free day of fishing open to Iraq or Afghanistan veterans.

““We found this way to honor Mark’s memory and all of the captains at Rock Harbor donate their time and their boats,” said Michelle DeSilva, co-founder of Cape Cod Cares for Our Troops, “we do a bib barbecue afterwards and it’s just a way for us to honor not only Mark’s memory, but our men and women, our veterans our currently serving, our wounded warriors.”

25 Deep Sea Fishing Boats will be filled with veterans, sent out for four hours of fishing in Cape Cod Bay, and return for a BBQ Lunch at the Orleans/Eastham Elks Club on McCoy Road.

Prior to the trip, the organizations will host an opening ceremony and send off to show the community’s appreciation for their service, members of the public are encouraged to take part.

There are still openings for Iraq or Afghanistan veterans, as well as any current military member, interested in taking part in the free day of fishing and fun. To secure your spot on the boat, call 774-216-9052 or visit CapeCodCares4TheTroops.com.

The opening ceremony is scheduled to get underway this Saturday, August 26th at 12:30 PM at Rock Harbor in Orleans, with the fishing trip to follow, and the BBQ Dinner at 5:00 PM.
