AAA Predicts Highest Travel Volume on Record for Holiday Week

HYANNIS – The highest travel volume prediction on record was recently released by AAA. They claim the number of holiday travelers will top 100 million nationwide for the first time.

Spokeswoman for AAA Mary Maguire said part of the reason she expects New Englanders in particular to hit the road is an unusual pattern of mild weather and low gas prices.

“We’re outpacing the national increase in New England,” she said. “We’re projecting over 4.3 million New Englanders will travel, and that’s an increase of 2.2 percent over last year.”

Another number AAA reports: 90 percent of travelers, or 91.3 million people, will be driving to their holiday destinations as opposed to taking trains, planes or buses.

The year-end holiday travel period is defined by AAA as the period between December 23^rd and January 3^rd.

This is the seventh straight year AAA has predicted year end travel growth.
