Army Corps of Engineers Considers Mashpee Dredging Proposal

MASHPEE – Public comment is open on the Town of Mashpee’s plans to dredge portions of Popponnesset Bay and Waquoit Bay for beach re-nourishment projects in town.

The Army Corps of Engineers is considering the proposal, which would place nearly 25,000 cubic yards of sand on Wills Work Road Beach, Popponnesset Spit, and South Cape Beach.

The Corps is accepting comments until January 15^th.

Corps officials say they will consult with the National Marine Fisheries Service about the impact the dredging could have on fish habitat in the area before issuing their final decision.
