Assumption College Set To Launch Addiction Counseling Program

DrugsBARNSTABLE – The Cape’s drug epidemic is creating the need for more addiction counseling.

Assumption College has launched a certificate program on the Cape for drug and alcohol counseling, a move that’s being hailed by local healthcare officials.

“It’s been an area of need for quite some time. The workforce issues here around healthcare in general are pretty acute, and the special area of addiction treatment is certainly acute right now,” said Gosnold CEO Raymond Tamasi.

The Cape continues to see increasing overdose numbers, with Yarmouth police reporting a total of 10 overdoses since just before Thanksgiving. Mashpee police have responded to 6 overdoses recently.

Classes start on January 23rd at the West Dennis Public Library.
