WEST BARNSTABLE – Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey held a town hall with Cape Cod residents at Cape Cod Community College earlier this week.
Around 200 people packed the auditorium at the Tilden Arts Center to ask Healey a number of questions and hear her answers.
Topics discussed included the state’s recent passage of recreational marijuana, the current status of the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station in Plymouth and encouraging more people to be activists and get politically involved.
“I want to be clear, I am somebody who strongly opposed the legalization of marijuana, okay, I lost on that issue at the ballot box, and now we’re about implementation,” said Healey.
Healey took a question from an audience member that was concerned about the herbicides being used by Eversource along their rights of way.
“Know that my mission is absolutely making sure that we have clean water, and to the extent that there’s something there polluting it, we’ll be prepared to act,” said Healey.
Before the event, she entered the college campus to several protestors who were holding signs that read “Healey Hurts Families”.
At the end of the town hall, Healey stressed to the audience members that the work ahead is more important than ever.
