Barnstable Assistant Town Manager Search Down to 3 Candidates

Barnstable Town Manager Mark Ells

HYANNIS – The pool of candidates for the Assistant Town Manager job in Barnstable has been whittled down from ten to three.

Town Manager Mark Ells, who held the position before being named to the top spot last year, said discussions are underway with one of the candidates.

“It’s been a very positive process so far and I hope to bring forward a candidate in the very near future,” Ells said.

Ells said he is seeking a professional manager with senior-level management experience that can communicate complex issues.

“I’m looking for somebody that is going to be actively involved in accomplishing the priorities that we establish with our Town Council and we carry through our organization as we receive approval for our annual operating budget,” Ells said.

The search to fill the position began with a pool of 156 applicants before it was narrowed to 53, then ten and now three.

“We had very strong candidates apply to this,” he said. “Some traditional and some non-traditional.”

Ells said a pick could be made by the end of the month or in early February.
