BARNSTABLE – It’s been 25 years since the Town of Barnstable opened the Olde Fairgrounds Golf Course in Marstons Mills.

The course, which opened in 1992, is set on 155 acres, with about 80 acres of turf.

To celebrate the achievement, the fairgrounds will have anniversary hats, shirts and apparel.

Barnstable Director of Golf Bruce McIntyre started working for the town in 1993, and said that the years have gone by so quickly.

“We’re incredibly proud of Olde Barnstable and the success it’s had and its reputation,” said McIntyre.

He adds that the course sees about 40,000 rounds of golf a year.

There is also a lot happening at the site this year.

There is a new restaurant, Tavern on the Green that is now open and the fairgrounds is undergoing a complete renovation of its clubhouse.

The location is known to be an easier course to walk and is popular among seniors.

“It’s not an easy course but it’s set up in the manner in which players of all abilities can play it well, they can score well,” said McIntyre.

It’s one of two courses owned by the Town, with the other being the Hyannis Golf Course.
