BARNSTABLE – Little Leaguers from Barnstable are one step closer to going to the Little League World Series.

Barnstable defeated Holden Wednesday in the state championship game to earn their spot in the New England Regionals.

Barnstable Little League Vice President Joe Scott said they’re ecstatic.

“Everyone is very excited. It’s actually the furthest a Cape Cod team has ever gone. There’s never been a Cape Cod team that’s won a state title. It’s a great group of kids. It’s a great group of coaches and we couldn’t be happier for the families and all the players on the team,” he said.

Their first game in the regional tournament is against Cumberland, Rhode Island on Saturday.

Scott is optimistic about the team’s prospects in the tournament.

“This team that we have right now is the most talented Little League team that I’ve seen in the eight or nine years I’ve been involved in Barnstable Little League. I think the sky is the limit for Barnstable Little League in that New England regional tournament,” he said.
