Barnstable Municipal Airport Manager Announces Retirement

Barnstable Municipal Airport Manager Bud Breault

HYANNIS – Barnstable Municipal Airport Manager Bud Breault notified the Barnstable Airport Commission Tuesday night that he would retire at the end of his contract on February 28, 2018.

Breault has been in the position for eight years, and previously served as the town manager in Truro for more than eight years.

He cited $100 million in upgrades and improvements during his tenure as a major success.

“Brand new terminal, brand new tower, new access road that now everybody uses as a major route,” he said.

A massive and unique solar array was also constructed on airport property during his time in the job. The need to diversify the revenue model was part of the reason for that project.

Breault is also a retired U. S. Coast Guard Captain who began his career as a Coast Guard Aviator and Helicopter pilot who also served as the Chief of the Search and Rescue Branch.

Breault was the Chief for the Boating Safety Division for the First Coast Guard District in Boston and Assistant Chief, Public Affairs Division at Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, DC.

He completed his Coast Guard career in 1995 while serving as Commander of Coast Guard Group Woods Hole.

Shortly after retirement from the Coast Guard, he was selected to be the Town Administrator for Truro.

“After 57 years plus of government, federal and municipal experience, it’s time to move on,” Breault said.

After leaving Truro, he continued his municipal work as the Assistant Director, Public Works Department for the Town of Barnstable. Breault was named Airport Manager in 2009.

Following retirement, Breault would like to spend more time with family.

“I feel the time is right to retire,” he said.

“It’s been my sincere pleasure to have worked with the Airport Commission for the past 8 plus years as we have almost completely rebuilt and modernized the airport. It could not have been done without the Airport Commission’s full support and that of our superb staff.”

Before leaving next year, he’ll continue to work on attracting more airlines to the airport and adding service to and from Hyannis.

Breault plans to stay on long enough to assist his successor.

In his retirement letter to the Board he strongly recommended that they immediately appoint and contract with Katie Servis to be the next Airport Manager.

Servis currently serves at the Assistant Airport Manager. Servis, Breault said, is a licensed pilot, is highly qualified, motivated, fully conversant with all matters related to the Barnstable Municipal Airport, and very knowledgeable of all aspects of the position.
