HYANNIS – Next weekend, Hockey East, the women’s collegiate championship tournament will come to the Hyannis Youth and Community Center for the fourth year in a row, and town officials say the event has a big impact.

Barnstable Town Manager Thomas Lynch said, “The fact that they’re trying to make this a destination tournament and we have a lot of amenities beyond this wonderful facility. We have seen with different events that happen here that our local merchants do well, particularly in this off-season, hotels and motels, and restaurants offer specials.”

Barnstable Economic Development Specialist Michael Trovato estimated that the tournament brings a total of about $200,000 in event fees, lodging, restaurants, and other spending in town.

The event is March 6 through 8 at the HYCC.

Team practices take place Friday from 10:15 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. and admission is free during the practices.

On Saturday, March 7, the semifinals will take place at 1:30 and 4:30. The championship game is scheduled for Sunday, March 8 at 1:30 p.m.

All games are played at the Lt. Joseph P. Kennedy Jr. Memorial Skating Rink at the HYCC at 141 Basset Lane in Hyannis.
