Barnstable Officials Want To Charge For Ocean Street Lot

parking lotHYANNIS – Officials in the town of Barnstable are in the process of converting a formerly free town parking lot on Ocean Street in Hyannis into a pay for use lot.

Pay- to-park kiosks have been installed in the lot, which is located behind the Hibbell Building next to the Hyannis Village Green and just steps from town hall.

The free lot has been used by some people who take the ferry over to Nantucket, in order to avoid paying for parking at lots close to the ferry terminals.

Barnstable Town Manager Tom Lynch said kiosks have been installed in order to encourage more turnover in the lot for patrons of businesses in the area.

He said the goal is to decrease long-term parking in the lot.

But he said the town is considering putting aside several spots for day-long parking by Barnstable Town Hall employees.
