Barnstable Polar Plunge Set For New Year’s Day

Bare BeachBARNSTABLE VILLAGE-Hundreds of people are expected to strip down to their swim wear and brave the cold water for Barnstable’s Annual New Year’s Day Polar Plunge at Millway Beach.

The event kicks off at 10am Thursday and is free, but all proceeds from shirt sales and raffle tickets go to the Glenna Kohl Fund for Hope organization.

The group’s founder, Colleen Kohl, says they’re excited for the event.

“This time of the year we don’t do anything for fundraising, we do most of our fundraising in the spring and summer,” said Kohl.

“We’re thankful for this wonderful group of people that are putting this together.”

Kohl adds that this is the third year in the event’s 15 year history, that proceeds will go to the Glenna Kohl Fund for Hope organization.

The organization brings awareness about the dangers of melanoma and the importance of early detection.
