Barnstable Police Looking For Suspects In a Pair of Cash Register Thefts

PoliceBARNSTABLE- Barnstable Police are investigating two incidents of theft from a cash register at two separate businesses, hours apart yesterday.

Shortly after 8 p.m., the employee of the Vanilla and Chocolate Gift shop on Main Street in Hyannis walked into the police station in Hyannis to report that someone had opened the store’s cash register and stole ten and twenty dollar bills.

Sgt. Sean Sweeney says the employee noticed a man walking away from the register and went to confront the man outside but he ran off.

The employee told police that the man fled south on Main Street to High School Road.

Police dispatched the K-9 unit to look for the suspect but were unable to track him down.

The suspect is described as white male, 20 to 30 years old, 5’10” tall with bushy hair and a beard.

He was wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and dark shorts at the time of the theft.

An employee at the Westies Shoe Outlet on Route 28 contacted Barnstable Police hours earlier after they noticed their cash register was open and money was stolen from it.

Sweeney says the employee went to the back of the store and when the returned to the front, they noticed the cash register was wide open.

The employee was unable to get a description of the culprit.

Police are unsure if both incidents are related.
