YARMOUTH – Volunteers will be descending on Yarmouth later this month to make home repairs and improvements for seniors, veterans, and disabled residents.
The 5th Annual Big Fix is September 13. The event is put on by Housing Assistance Corporation.
Housing Assistance Corporation Communications and Development Director Julie Wake says many towns were interested in being the location for this year’s Big Fix, but Yarmouth was an appropriate choice.
“Yarmouth has been working with us on many projects and we just thought it was a great fit. It’s [Housing Assistance Corporations’s] 40th anniversary this year and it’s Yarmouth’s 375th anniversary this year, so we thought it was a good combination of efforts and anniversaries.”
Wake added that the event has grown each year, with a record 240 volunteers participating last year in Mashpee.
“Every year it gets better, and each year we have towns calling and saying ‘please bring The Big Fix to our town'”
The Big Fix goes to Bourne next year. Wake says they’re still looking for volunteers for this year’s event.
