Big Weekend for Christmas Strolls on Cape

NantucketChristmasBARNSTABLE – Christmas comes to the Cape and Islands in a big way over the next two weekends.

Over the course of this weekend, December 5 to 7, there are big celebrations in Falmouth, Hyannis, Provincetown, Nantucket, Brewster, Yarmouthport and Centerville.

Falmouth’s Holidays by the Sea is a three-day weekend event and ends on Sunday with a Christmas Parade which is the largest in the region.

Besides the parade, there are a number of other events taking place in Falmouth.

Falmouth’s event begins with carol-singing at Nobska Lighthouse as the winter’s sun sets over Vineyard Sound.

On Saturday, there is the the Jingle Jog 5K and Kids Elf Run along Vineyard Sound.

Also on Saturday, Santa arrives by boat at Falmouth Harbor and there is a Main Street Holiday Stroll.

Caroling at the lighting of the Village Green is Saturday night.

The Falmouth Christmas Parade steps off at noontime at the Falmouth Mall and proceeds down Main Street to the Village Green.

The Hyannis Village Christmas Stroll on Main Street and at the waterfront takes place Saturday, December 6. The stroll with dozens of activities takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Santa’s Boat Parade is 3:30 to 5:30 p.m.

The Spectacle of Trees, a charity fundraiser on display at the John F. Kennedy Hyannis Museum can be viewed until December 13. Winners of the drawings for the trees will be announced on that day at 7:40 p.m.

Another popular Christmas stroll event takes place in Yarmouthport on Sunday, December 7. Museums, bed and breakfasts, inns and businesses along the Old Kings Highway welcome strollers with holiday decorations, food and music of the season. Gary Albuquerque’s collection of Christmas ornaments will be on display at the Bangs Hallet House and Cape Cod Santa will again be on the porch of the house for photographs, courtesy of Walgreen’s. 1 to 4 p.m.

A non-commercial stroll is the focus of the Centerville Historic Main Street Stroll on Sunday, December 7, from 4 to 7 pm. Parking is at Craigville Beach with a free shuttle service to Main Street.
Next weekend, December 12 and 13, there are holiday strolls in Wellfleet, Chatham, Dennis, and Edgartown on Martha’s Vineyard.
Also next weekend is the South Yarmouth Library 9th Annual Cookie Stroll and the Mashpee Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 13.
The Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce is promoting all the events as Christmas on Cape Cod.
With all the events itemized, there are more than 100 special events and attractions for the holidays.
Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce CEO Wendy Northcross said, “If anyone thinks that winter is sleepy on Cape Cod, they certainly haven’t visited during the holidays. The Cape has become a holiday destination and from Falmouth to Provincetown and every village in between, there are wonderful events planned, each reflecting the unique character of the town.”
