BARNSTABLE – The Bilezikian family has donated 4.5 acres of salt marsh to the Barnstable Land Trust (BLT) in memory of Charles G. Bilezikian.
Located on Mill Creek in Cummaquid, the land provides strong habitat value.
It is part of a much larger resource area that is recognized for rare species and unique habitats, the Sandy Neck/Barnstable Harbor Area of Critical Environmental Concern (ACEC).
The ACEC supports a variety of wildlife such as coastal shorebirds, otter, deer, rabbits, raccoons and opossums.
The Keveney Lane bridge crosses Mill Creek, which divides Barnstable and Yarmouth and the bridge’s scenic vista encompasses the Bilezikian land, providing an ideal location for bird watching.
The land expands an existing sanctuary on the other side of a small brook, which includes 1.43-acre parcel of land donated to BLT in 2010 and 10 acres of salt marsh, owned by Mass Audubon.
