BOSTON – The Boston Fire Department has released a statement after one of their firefighters was charged with three counts of child rape on Cape Cod.

The department said the accusations against 56 year old Edward Kulik “gravely contradicts our values.” They added Kulik, a Lieutenant, has been on the verge of retirement and has not been an active firefighter in recent months.

The department said it plans to take “swift, appropriate action if and when it’s necessary”

Kulik, a Centerville resident, pleaded not guilty Wednesday in Barnstable District Court and was released on $3,500 bail.

According to Cape and Islands District Attorney Michael O’Keefe’s office, conditions of Kulik’s release include wearing a GPS monitoring device and staying away from all persons under 16.

Kulik must also stay away from mentoring programs, any school with children under 16, and avoid all contact with any alleged victims.

He has reportedly worked on mentoring programs with children on Cape Cod in the past. The alleged rapes happened in 2010.

Kulik will be back in court for a pre-trial on April 24.
