Bourne and Sandwich Fire Crews Battle Sagamore Fire

fire department patchSAGAMORE – Bourne and Sandwich fire crews fought a fire this morning at Knowlton’s Garage on Sandwich Road/Route 6A in Sagamore.

A motorist reported seeing smoke and fire just after 6 a.m.

Fire crews arrived to find an office building, which was a converted garage, half invovled.

Crews knocked the fire down in about 20 minutes.

Bourne Deputy Fire Chief Dana Dupuis said the fire was contained to the building where the fire started and there were no injuries.

The fire caused traffic delays as the road was closed in the area until 8:30 a.m.

Dupuis said a fire truck and hoses were in the road.

The cold weather also affected the roads as Dupuis said the water caused a sheet of ice to form on the road.

A Massachusetts Department of Transportation sand truck was called to sand the road before it was reopened.

A cause has not been determined and a Bourne fire inspector is still investigating.

Dupuis said the building was unoccupied.
