Bourne Selectmen Request that Gottlieb be Re-hired as Collaborative Director

COURTESY OF THE TOWN OF MASHPEE: Selectman Chair Andrew Gottlieb.

BOURNE – Bourne Selectmen have sent a letter to Barnstable County Commissioners asking that Andrew Gottlieb be re-hired as Executive Director of the Cape Cod Water Protection Collaborative.

Gottlieb, who is also a Mashpee selectman, resigned earlier this month citing a lack of support from the Commissioners.

In their letter, selectmen say that the Collaborative is one of the most supportive and knowledgeable municipal water resources management efforts and that Gottlieb is an excellent candidate to continue with the work of the Collaborative.

“Not only should the county continue to support the Collaborative for the work that they do, but it would be better run if we continued on with the services from Mr. Gottlieb,” said Bourne Selectman Steven Mealy.

In addition, the letter states that Gottlieb, as Executive Director, has maintained the focus of the Collaborative and worked to the member’s best interests to allow the towns to move forward and address both water and wastewater issues.

“I’m trying to recognize that the best of the Collaborative and the success of the work that’s been done is directly associated with its director as well as the members of the Commission,” said Mealy.

Since its inception in 2005, the Collaborative has attempted to protect Cape Cod’s shared water resources and to provide access to cost-effective and environmentally sound wastewater infrastructure.
