Brewster Ponds Coalition Hosts Upper Mill Pond Walk

brewster-pictureBREWSTER – What is a quaking bog and does it happen only around Halloween?

Walk the shores of Upper Mill Pond and discover a quaking bog.

See what was once a cranberry bog and learn how to observe a pond and begin collecting data to assess its status.

What observations can help you, over time, to evaluate what causes a pond to be healthy or impaired?

The Brewster Ponds Coalition is hosting a walk at Upper Mill Pond on October 29 from 10-11:30 a.m.

Advance registration is required and it is limited to 35 walkers.

A $10 contribution is asked to participate in the event, but it is free to Brewster Ponds Coalition contributing members.

Those interested in participating can register at brewsterponds.org and the deadline is October 27.

Participants are encouraged to wear rain gear and comfortable walking shoes.

The event will go on if there is a light rain or mist, but heavy rain will cancel the walk.

The Brewster Ponds Coalition serves to educate, advocate, and help secure funding on behalf of Brewster’s ponds.

Through written materials, presentations and other sources, the Coalition educates about the causes and types of pond health deterioration, reviews pond studies with property owners, and teaches ways we can all help both protect and restore our ponds.
