WASHINGTON, D.C. – Cape and Islands State Senator Julian Cyr made his first trip to Washington, D.C. as a legislator this week.

Cyr joined a number of his Senate colleagues to lobby on the federal budget.

The state senators included Adam Hinds (Pittsfield), James Eldridge (Marlborough), Joe Boncore (Winthrop), Linda Dorcena (Boston) and Sal DiDomenico (Boston).

“The idea is to really get a sense of the federal environment in this new administration with a fully Republican congress, especially as we’re taking up our budget,” said Cyr.

The all-Democratic delegation met with members of the Massachusetts congressional delegation as well as a number of federal agencies, including the Department of Transportation and the Department of Health and Human Services.

Cyr said that they discussed port infrastructure investment, the opioid epidemic, the Cape Cod National Seashore and funding for community block grants and tax credits for affordable housing.

He added that he felt good after leaving Washington, D.C.

“I think we see a lot of resiliency in our agencies and I think that clearly this is an administration that had five federal agencies willing to meet with us folks from Massachusetts and so I find that very encouraging,” said Cyr.
