HYANNIS – Fans of the Cape Cod Baseball League are encouraged to attend an event at the Hyannis Transportation Center on June 18.

The Wareham Gatemen will hop onboard the CapeFLYER and ride into Hyannis where they will meet up with the Hyannis Harbor Hawks at the event before they play each other in the afternoon.

The players will mingle with fans during an open to the public reception at the transportation center.

“A train, hot dogs, peanuts, the country’s top college baseball players, and Father’s Day – I can’t think of another place I’d want to be,” said Cape Cod Baseball League Commissioner Paul Galop.

With a chance to shake hands or get an autograph from a Cape Leaguer, plus a few other special treats for visitors, a quintessential Cape Cod scrapbook moment is there to be had.

“With 1 out of 6 players in Major League Baseball having come through the Cape League – Red Sox third-basemen Travis Shaw among them,” Galop said, “there’s no doubt more than a few will leave there with a unique memory of a future star and a fabulous start to Father’s Day weekend.”

CCRTA Administrator Tom Cahir said it makes sense for the CCRTA to play host for reasons that go far beyond the fact that Cahir himself once played in the Cape League.

“I know first-hand how memorable the Cape League experience is for fans and players. To offer a free family experience in a centrally-located place on Father’s Day weekend is a true public service,” Cahir said. “It’s also a great way to kick-off the summer season, which is vital to the regional economy.”

The CapeFLYER will offer baseball-themed food and beverages on the ride into Hyannis and is scheduled to arrive at the transportation center at 10:20am.

A 30-minute reception will follow before the players leave for nearby McKeon Field to warm-up for their 2pm game.

Fans will also be invited to tour the CCBL Hall of Fame on Main Street before the game begins.

There will be a pie-eating contest sponsored by the Centerville Pie Company prior to the Hyannis Harbor Hawks game on Sunday, June 19.
