Cape Cod Baseball League Releases 2016 Schedule, Chatham To Host All-Star Game

cape league logoHYANNIS – Summer can’t be too far away, since officials with the Cape Cod Baseball League have released the schedule for the 2016 season.

The nation’s best collegiate players return to Cape Cod on June 10th, with all 10 teams in action on opening night. That night, defending champion Y-D hosts Wareham, Orleans heads to Brewster, Bourne plays Hyannis, Cotuit visits Harwich, and Falmouth heads east to take on Chatham.

The playoffs are slated to begin on August 5th, with 8 of the 10 teams in the league earning a spot in the tournament. Each series, the division semi-finals, finals, and the Cape League Championship Series are a best-of-three format.

“Our eight-team playoff format has proved to be enormously popular and that format will continue,” said Cape League Commissioner Paul Galop. “When creating a schedule complicated as this, the No. 1 priority is fairness and balance. All teams have same weekend, home game/away game balance, and the first half and second half of our season are balanced, with home games equaling away for all 10 teams. We’re pleased with this schedule and hope the weather will be as wonderful as it was last summer.”

The 2016 All-Star Game will be played at Veterans Field in Chatham on July 23, the first time the Anglers have hosted the All-Star Game since 2008.

5,200 hundred fans attended last year’s All-Star Game in Wareham.

In a change from the previous two years, there are no scheduled double-headers for the 2016 season.
