Cape Cod Chamber Encourages Shoppers To Go Local

moneyBARNSTABLE – To help counteract the spike in shopping at big box stores on Black Friday, some organizations are supporting Small Business Saturday. The Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce is one group encouraging residents to take the opportunity to support local businesses this weekend.

“We really want people to think about where they spend their money, because when you spend money with a local business, that’s money that’s going to stay in the community,” said Cape Cod Chamber CEO Wendy Northcross, “We try to do that all year round and say ‘hey, please be mindful of the over 2,000 retailers on Cape Cod that are relatively small and could really use your support'” Northcross added.

Northcross said she’s optimistic about a strong holiday season for businesses, citing falling gas prices and an improving economy as an indicator that consumers have more money to spend this year.
