SANDWICH – This year’s Cape Cod Healthcare Summer Charity Gala raised a record $350,000.
The funds will support the home health services of the Visiting Nurse Association of Cape Cod, which was being honored at the gala for its 100th anniversary.
The VNA is one of the Cape’s oldest non-profits and provides skilled nursing and therapies in home, along with community health programs.
Due to limitations and cutbacks in health coverage, the organization does not receive reimbursements for about $750,000 to $1 million each year.
The VNA employs 850 people and provides more than 350,000 home visits every year.
The non-profit has been named to the HomeCareElite’s list of the 500 top-performing home health agencies in the country each of the last five years.
“Never has the care that the VNA provides been more critical than it is right now,” said Michael Lauf, the president and CEO of Cape Cod Healthcare, at the gala on Saturday at the Ridge Club in Sandwich. “The patient is at the center of everything we do here at Cape Cod Healthcare, and we want to ensure that we are touching our patients wherever they need us. Our VNA nurses and caregivers epitomize this mission, by going to the far reaches of Cape Cod and into Plymouth County to give life-saving and life-enriching care to our patients who are at home.”
