Cape Cod Military Support Foundation Collects Hundreds of Back-to-School Items

DENNIS PORT – The Cape Cod Military Support Foundation collected hundreds of school supplies this past weekend during donation events in three locations.

The foundation took in donations from Ocean State Job Lot locations in Dennis Port, East Falmouth and East Wareham.

The local non-profit foundation has led the annual campaign with a goal of providing backpacks filled with school supplies and distributing them to the children of active duty members of the military, National Guard and Coast Guard.

“The reality is that back to school time can be a burden on many families – especially those who have to provide school supplies and clothing for more than one child in their household,” explained Cape Cod Military Support Foundation President and CEO Don Cox,

“These children face a lot in their young lives, from moving multiple times, to dealing with the deployment of a parent, or knowing that a parent is risking their life to do their jobs every day,” he said.

Last year alone the foundation, with support from members of the community, was able to dispense more than 2,800 backpacks and have proclaimed a goal this year to surpass that by providing at least 4,000.
