Cape Cod Military Support Foundation to Collect School Supplies for Military Families

BOURNE – The Cape Cod Military Support Foundation has announced the return of Operation Backpack to Support Massachusetts Military Families.

The local non-profit has led the annual campaign with a goal of providing backpacks filled with school supplies and distributing them to the children of active duty members of the military, National Guard and Coast Guard.

“The reality is that back to school time can be a burden on many families – especially those who have to provide school supplies and clothing for more than one child in their household,” explained Cape Cod Military Support Foundation President and CEO Don Cox, “These children face a lot in their young lives, from moving multiple times, to dealing with the deployment of a parent, or knowing that a parent is risking their life to do their jobs every day.”

Last year alone the foundation, with support from members of the community, was able to dispense more than 2,800 backpacks and have proclaimed a goal this year to surpass that by providing at least 4,000.

As part of achieving this ambitious objective, the foundation has partnered with Ocean State Job Lot’s own Charitable Foundation as well as Operation Homefront to procure as many provisions as possible.

“Ensuring these kids are armed for success with the basic tools and supplies they need for the school year is just one small way that we can show our support,” said cox, “They deserve no less than the best.”

To contribute to Cape Cod Military Support Foundation’s 2017 Operation Backpack to Support Massachusetts Military Families visit any one of several donation collection boxes that have been set up across the community.

Donations will be collected through August, after which time the foundation will be in need of volunteers to assist with assembling the backpacks. If you are interested in volunteering to take part, contact the Military Support Foundation at (774) 392-5698.
