Cape Cod Museum of Natural History Hosts Forum on ‘Why Birds Sing’

BREWSTER – The Cape Cod Museum of Natural History is hosting a Lunch and Learn program on Monday, July 17, titled “Why Birds Sing” with Naturalist Phil Kyle.

The song of birds can be soothing and inspiring to humans, but birds sing for more than just the beauty of it.

Birds use song, call notes and behavior to communicate with each other.

They also use sound and action to scare off predators or warn other birds about danger, to defend territory or to attract a mate during breeding season.

Through lecture, slides and Phil Kyle’s own carvings, the explanation of why birds vocalize is revealed.

Science fiction will take on a whole new reality when migration, singing, nest building and territorial defense are discussed.

Admission is $25 for non-members and $15 for members, and includes the program, box lunch and museum.

Lunch n’ Learn is the museum’s new summer series, featuring a slate of out of the ordinary science speakers.

Another program from the series will take place on Monday, July 31, titled “Climate Change, Penguins and Women’s Leadership”.

The mission of the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History is to inspire appreciation, understanding and stewardship of the natural environment through discovery and learning.
