HYANNIS – Cape Cod will soon be the home to its own version of Fenway Park.

Barnstable Little League recently broke ground on the field behind the Horace Mann Public Charter School in Hyannis that will be used for 6 to 8-year-olds in Farm League.

Little League President Joe Scott says the goal of the field is to attract more young children to play baseball in town.

“It should be a great project for the town, for the kids and hopefully we can get as many kids out there playing baseball as possible next spring,” Scott said.

The field will be built to a scale suitable to that age group and will feature a Green Monster, a Citgo Sign, the centerfield triangle and right field bullpen.

Scott said a deal was made with the Boston Red Sox to be able to use the likeness and the name Fenway Cape Cod.

A deal was also made with the Cape Cod Baseball League for next year for the teams to use its team names, logos and uniforms.

Scott said the field will be taking shape this fall.

“We might have to put some final touches on it in the Spring, but the town of Barnstable will be home to a Fenway Park down in Hyannis sometime before Thanksgiving,” Scott said.

The field will add to the Lorusso Complex which in recent years added a second field with lights and a set of professional batting cages.
