Some Cape towns are already in the forefront of energy efficiency,

Richard Elrick, energy coordinator for the towns of Barnstable and Bourne, said the two towns have made a lot of progress on the issue.

In addition, Elrick said the towns of Barnstable, Falmouth and Nantucket also have charging stations for electric vehicles.

Bourne was among the towns across the commonwealth to participate in Solarize Massachusetts to encourage installation of solar panels on buildings. Through the program, 35 Bourne residents installed the panels, Elrick said.
