Cape Unemployment Down for November

TOWN MEETING VOTESBARNSTABLE – Unemployment figures for Cape Cod were positive in November.

David Augustinho, executive director of the Cape Cod Workforce Investment Board said he attributes the low unemployment to the usual holiday retail need for employees, as well as a strengthening of the construction industry.

He said the November unemployment rate is 6.1 percent, which is down from last year, but he said that cannot be explained entirely from seasonal holiday retail positions. Last year’s rate in November was 7.8 percent.

Augustinho said he expects the December numbers, which will be released in January, to be close to the November numbers.
