EAST FALMOUTH – A driver who swerved to avoid a brood of ducklings ended up with his vehicle partially submerged in Mill Pond earlier today.

The crash happened around 11:55 a.m. on East Falmouth Highway, according to police.

The driver was heading west toward Falmouth center when he came upon the ducklings crossing the road and swerved right to avoid them, police said. The SUV, a 2000 Infinity, rolled over and wound up on its side in the pond.

Traffic was impacted for about an hour and a half along the busy road as the road was reduced to one lane until the car was removed from the pond.

Neither the driver nor the ducklings were injured, according to Falmouth Police Lieutenant Sean Doyle.

Police are not yet releasing the name of the 35-year-old East Falmouth man who was driving.

No citations were issued, according to Doyle. “We thanked him for avoiding the ducks,” he said.
