FALMOUTH – The town of Falmouth can now have a trash transfer station, after a contentious vote at last night’s Fall Annual Town Meeting.

Town Meeting members debated the issue for almost two hours last night and took two votes to allow the transfer station to operate.

When it came time for the first vote, the article had the two thirds majority—by only a few votes—to change the zoning of land on Route 151 owned by trash hauler Carl Cavossa.

Town Meeting took a second vote to change the town’s zoning definition to allow for a transfer station.

The standing vote was so close, one town meeting member asked for a recount. But moderator David Vierra refused.

After the vote, Cavossa said he was relieved and grateful for the trust that Town Meeting had placed in him.
