BOURNE – America’s oldest merchant vessel and the last wooden whaling ship in the world, the Charles W. Morgan, will sail through the Cape Cod Canal tomorrow at 7:30 a.m.

The Morgan is passing through the 7-mile canal on her way to Provincetown and the Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary.

The visit to the sanctuary is a symbolic voyage to one of the world’s premier whale watching areas.

The ships crew will team with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, while in the sanctuary, to conduct outreach activities highlighting whale conservancy and ocean research.

The 19th century whaling ship set sail on her 38th voyage in May to visit historic port towns spanning New England.

Her voyage started in New London before sailing to Newport, Vineyard Haven and New Bedford.
