As Cape Cod braces for up to 10 inches of snow today residents can look forward to hot summer events, including the Chatham Independence Day Parade.

The parade’s committee has announced this year’s theme – “Chatham for the Holidays!” The theme celebrates the idea that the town is a great place to celebrate all holidays throughout the year.

This year’s theme was submitted by summer visitor Courtney Cratty, who has celebrated the Fourth of July with her family in Chatham for many years.

“With this announcement, the considerable creative talents that dwell in Chatham can now go to work to begin designing and constructing a parade float and ultimately compete for the coveted Chatham Cup which recognizes the Most Outstanding Float in the parade each year,” said Brad Schiff, the chair of the Chatham Independence Day Parade Committee.

The Bridge Street Buccaneers were last year’s winner with a pirate puppet ship.

A Best Family Float category has been added this year to the awards to inspire more family participation.

The committee is also looking for volunteers to help plan and manage parade activities. Interested individuals should contact the committee by email at [email protected].
