MARSTONS MILLS – A six-year-old girl was medflighted to Boston this morning after being hit by a car driven by her father.
According to Barnstable Police Sergeant Sean Sweeney, George Quinn was backing up his Dodge Stratus while five children were playing in the yard at 49 Bracken Fern Drive in Marstons Mills.
The father told police he thought he had accounted for all of them when he began slowly to back up the car. But his daughter Amy went behind the car with her toddler-sized bicycle.
When the father realized the car struck something, he pulled it forward and found his daughter with scrapes and abrasions, according to Sgt. Sweeney.
The girl had lacerations to her legs and knees, as well as a cut to her forehead.
Because of the cut to her forehead, emergency officials determined a medflight was needed, Sweeney said.
Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills Fire & Rescue personnel were dispatched to the scene and treated the child.
Due to the nature of the injuries, a medflight was called and a landing zone was designated at Cape Cod Airport in Marstons Mills.
The girl was brought to the airfield by the ambulance and transported to Tufts Medical Center, according to C-O-MM officials.
The girl’s injuries were considered serious but not life threatening.
Sweeney said there would be no charges filed because the incident is considered an accident. “The father was very upset,” he said.
