Children Put Building Skills to Test at Annual LEGO Event

MASHPEE – Children from across the Cape put their skills to the test yesterday at an annual LEGO building competition.

“One of the reasons we do this is to introduce home-building to the youth to let them know that houses don’t just pop out of the ground,”said Chris Duren, the Executive Director of the Home Builders and Remodelers Association of Cape Cod. “It takes a lot of thought. It takes science, technology, engineering, and math to do what they do. We want to introduce it to them in a fun, unique way.”

“Play is an important part of growth and development in children. It’s the work of childhood,” said Barbara Cotton, the Executive Director of the Cape Cod Children’s Museum in Mashpee.

Children between the ages of 5-12 took part in the event.
