Civic Association Still Opposes Hyannis Fire Station

Voters in the Hyannis Fire District are being asked to fund a new headquarters.

HYANNIS – Members of the Hyannis Civic Association say they have been attempting to work together with the Hyannis Fire District on the project to build a new fire station.

The $20 million project has failed to gain the needed two-thirds majority at two district meetings so far this year.

Members of the civic association have been strong opponents of the project.

Civic Association member Ralph Krau said a proposal he presented to the Hyannis Fire Commissioners to form a joint building committee comprised of four members from the original building committee and four members from the civic association did not fly.

Instead, the commissioners voted to add four civic association members to the 9 building committee members to form a working group. In the eyes of Krau and other members of the civic association, that would leave them with little leverage to make adjustments to the plans.

“Now you have a committee of 13 and I don’t know how anybody can get anything done with a committee of 13,” he said.
