BARNSTABLE VILLAGE – The Coast Guard Heritage Museum has leased the historic Custom House on Route 6A in Barnstable Village for about 10 years and this year, the lease is up for renewal.

State laws about leasing municipal property require the Town of Barnstable to advertise a request for proposals to rent the building, but Barnstable Town Manager Thomas Lynch said he assumes the Coast Guard Museum will be renewing the lease.

The Custom House is one of the most historic buildings in town. Before being turned into the Coast Guard Museum, it served as a history museum called the Trayser Museum.

Lynch said he has not heard from museum officials yet, but is expecting them to make a bid on the property.

“The desired use there will be for historical or Cape Cod and or marine related artifacts,” Lynch said.
